The last year has changed me

Shortly after New Year’s Day, one morning I had several missed calls from both my parents on my phone. That was the beginning of a month that I can only vaguely remember—a month filled with fear of losing someone I loved. Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end, but the fear was a defining factor.

At that time, I worked as a graphic designer and took photos on the side. It was the first year I also did winter shoots. Unfortunately, my main job was very demanding, and I felt how much effort it took from me. It was difficult to juggle everything. But giving up my passion for photography was not an option. Especially after the difficult time at the beginning of the year, it became even clearer to me how important memories are.

In April I was invited to Spain. The plan was to visit a farm to possibly plan a photography course together. But this trip was going to be much more meaningful. There, two people met who were both not entirely satisfied with their careers. After long, deep conversations, I realized: This can’t continue. On the one hand, you never know how much time you have left; on the other hand, you could wait forever for the „right“ moment. The decision was made: I would quit my job and devote myself fully to self-employment starting this summer.

It was the best decision I could have made.

In the summer, a time of uncertainty and doubt began, but also of great excitement for everything that was to come. I realized: My path is one hundred percent the right one. Finally, after so many years, I have reached my goal.

Since July, I have been 100% self-employed as a photographer and graphic designer. Currently, the focus is approximately 90% % on photography and 10% % on graphic design. My wish is that this will develop even more evenly.

I often think that I am very lucky. And that is true – but that luck was the result of many decisions. Without them, I would still be in a job that would not have made me happy in the long run. More than ever, I have realized: The heart knows what it wants. It may sound cheesy or naive, but it is simply the truth.

For 2025, I wish for more peace – especially health for my family. For myself, I wish for even more creative fire and for everything to continue as it has been so far. Because I love what I do and I am glad to have taken the step into self-employment, even though it is not always easy.
