This photo shows a very special moment.

I was alone on the Alp early in the morning, before sunrise. The horses trotted in front of this imposing rock, and this stallion, together with a mare, approached the edge of the rock ever closer. And suddenly I had a certain image in my mind. I wished that he would move a little further up the rock. It was as if he had read my thoughts: For a few steps he went up the rock – just as I had imagined it. The moment lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough for me to take my photo. After that, he went back to the mare and to the other side of the rock.

That's exactly what I mean: horses give us such special moments when we give them the space to just be themselves.

In Switzerland, many horses are allowed to spend the summer on the Alp. They live there in larger herds and move freely over rocky slopes and through the forests. For a few months, they are allowed to be wild again. It is this freedom that I wanted to make tangible with this collection. None of the horses were positioned or influenced by humans for the photos. I simply connected with them using my camera, observed them, and waited. And I took photos in the appropriate moments.

When I look at the pictures today, I immediately return to that place above. I can feel the wind on my face and smell the fresh mountain herbs. I remember the cool air just before sunrise and the gentle chewing of the horses somewhere nearby. It is a tranquility that I can only feel in the mountains.

Every photo is a small piece of Alpsommer that you can take home with you. A picture that always reminds you of the freedom that is so natural up there.
